How to Play Ludo Online with Friends (Free, No Download)

To play Ludo online with friends, create a room on PlayLudo, send your friends the link, and press Start once everyone is in. It's free, runs in any browser on a phone or computer, and nobody needs to download anything or make an account.

Here's the whole thing, step by step.

Step 1: Create a Room

  1. Open Play Online.
  2. Under Create a room, pick how many seats your table has: 2 to 6 players.
  3. Press Create room.

You're now in the waiting room, with your own room code: 6 letters and numbers, like K7Q2XD.

Five and six seats use real five- and six-armed boards, not a four-player board with extra colours. Read how 5- and 6-player Ludo works.

Step 2: Send the Link to Your Friends

In the waiting room you have three ways to invite people:

ButtonWhat it does
Copy linkCopies the room's link to paste anywhere
Share on WhatsAppOpens WhatsApp with the link ready to send
More ways to shareYour phone's own share menu (Messenger, Telegram, SMS...)

Friends can also open Play Online, choose Join a room and type the room code.

Your friends don't need an account. When they open the link, they type the name they want to play under and they're in. Signing in is optional.

Step 3: Fill Empty Seats (Optional)

Not enough friends online? Press Add CPU to give an empty seat to a computer player. You can remove it again before the game starts.

Step 4: Choose Your House Rules

Every family plays Ludo a little differently. Before starting, the host can press Change next to House rules and choose, for this room:

  • Which roll takes a piece out: 6 only, 1 only, or 1 or 6
  • Cut to unlock home: you can't go home until you've cut someone
  • Must cut: pass up a cut and your lead piece goes back
  • Extra turns for a cut or for reaching home
  • Play on after a winner, so everyone plays for 2nd, 3rd and so on
  • A turn timer, from 10 seconds to a minute, or off

Everyone in the room sees the rules, and they're fixed once the game starts. All of them are explained in our house rules guide.

Step 5: Start the Game

When everyone has joined, the host presses Start game. A room needs at least 2 players: people, computers, or both.

Players take turns rolling the dice and moving their pieces. New to the game? Read how to play Ludo first, it takes five minutes.

What Happens During the Game

  • Turn timer: if the room has one and time runs out, the game plays your turn for you. Miss three turns in a row and a computer keeps playing for you until you act again.
  • Lost connection: your seat is kept for about 30 seconds, so a dropped signal or a page refresh doesn't knock you out. Open the room again and you're back in.
  • Arriving late: someone who opens the link after the game has started watches as a spectator.
  • Reactions: send emoji to the table during the game.

No Friends Online Right Now?

Choose Play with anyone and press Find players. You're matched with other people looking for a game, and if not everyone turns up, computer players fill the empty seats after 30 seconds.

Prefer to play on one phone or tablet, passing it round? Try Pass & Play for 2 to 6 players on one device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Every mode is free, with no download.

Yes. It works in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, and people on different devices can play in the same room.

How many people can play?

2 to 6 per room, people and computer players together.

It says "Room not found". Why?
